To create an outpost in Starfield, follow these steps:

1. Choose a Suitable Planet and Location
   Find a habitable planet where you want to build your outpost. Use your scanner to locate a good spot, ideally near the resources you want to extract

2. Open Your Scanner
   On PC, press the F key; on Xbox, press the LB button to open your scanner

3. Place the Outpost Beacon
   While scanning, press the R key (PC) or X button (Xbox) to place an Outpost Beacon. This claims the area for your outpost and marks it for fast travel

4. Build Essential Structures
   After placing the beacon, open the build menu (press Tab on PC) and start constructing key buildings:

   • Resource Extractors to gather nearby materials.
   • Power Sources to supply energy to your extractors and other buildings.
   • Optionally, build Crew Stations and Hab Modules to assign crew and companions to your outpost

5. Assign Crew (Optional)
   To assign crew or companions, build a Crew Station at the outpost. Then, open your crew menu and assign them to the outpost to help manage operations

6. Defend Your Outpost
   Build turrets or defenses because hostile fauna and pirates can attack and destroy your structures

7. Expand and Link Outposts
   You can build up to 8 outposts initially. Increase this limit by investing in the Planetary Habitation skill tree. You can also link outposts using Cargo Links to transfer resources between them
