To make a call as an unknown or private caller, you can use several methods to hide your phone number from the recipient:
Methods to Make an Unknown Caller or Private Call
- *Dial 67 before the phone number : This is a widely used method in the US. Simply dial *67 followed by the area code and phone number you want to call. The recipient will see "Private Number" or "Unknown Caller" instead of your number. This works on both landlines and mobile phones but must be done for each call you want to make private
- Disable Caller ID in your phone settings :
- On iPhone : Go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID, then toggle it off. Your calls will show as "No Caller ID" or "Unknown"
* On **Android** : Open the Phone app, tap the menu (three dots), go to Settings > Calls > Additional Settings > Caller ID, and select "Hide Number"
* On **Windows Phone** : Open Phone app > Menu > Settings > Show my caller ID to > select "No One"
- Use carrier-specific codes : Some carriers support dialing #31# before the number to hide your caller ID, similar to *67
Notes and Considerations
- The *67 or similar codes hide your number only for that call; they do not permanently block your caller ID.
- Disabling caller ID in settings can make all outgoing calls anonymous until you turn it back on.
- Calls to toll-free or emergency numbers usually cannot be made anonymously.
- Receiving calls from "Unknown Caller" or "No Caller ID" means the caller intentionally or unintentionally hid their number. Be cautious with such calls as they can sometimes be scams
Using these methods, you can make calls that appear as from an unknown or private caller to protect your identity or privacy.
