An easy way to draw a Christmas tree is to start from a simple triangle and then turn it into branches, add a trunk, and decorate it with a star and ornaments. The steps below work for kids and beginners and can be done with just a pencil and markers or crayons.
Simple triangle tree
- Draw a tall triangle in the middle of your paper; this will be the basic shape of your tree. Keep your lines light so you can erase or adjust them if needed.
- At the bottom of the triangle, draw a small rectangle for the tree trunk, centered under the triangle.
Turn triangle into branches
- Along each side of the triangle, replace the straight edge with short zigzag or bumpy lines to look like pine branches, keeping the overall triangle shape. Make the bumps a little larger as you go down so the tree looks wider at the bottom and narrower at the top.
- Erase the original straight triangle lines so only the zigzag tree outline and trunk remain.
Super easy stacked triangles
- For an even easier tree, draw three triangles stacked on top of each other: a small one at the top, a medium one in the middle, and a larger one at the bottom. Leave a little overlap so they touch or slightly cross each other.
- Add a rectangle trunk under the bottom triangle, then you can smooth or slightly curve the triangle edges if you like.
Add star and decorations
- Draw a small star on top (a simple plus sign with diagonal lines or a classic five‑pointed star) and a curved line going back and forth across the tree for tinsel if you want.
- Add circles for ornaments and maybe a few small boxes with ribbons at the bottom to look like presents.
Outline and color
- Trace your final lines with a darker pen or marker, then color the tree green, the trunk brown, the star yellow, and the ornaments in bright colors.
- You can finish by adding a few tiny circles or dots around the tree for falling snow or lights in the background.
