To get rid of fruit flies in the house effectively:

1. Make DIY traps using apple cider vinegar and dish soap. Pour some apple cider vinegar into a small container, add a few drops of dish soap to break the surface tension, and cover the container with plastic wrap punctured with small holes. Fruit flies are attracted to the vinegar scent, enter through the holes, and get trapped in the soapy liquid.
2. Use ripe or overripe fruit in a container covered with plastic wrap with holes as another trap option.
3. Check and clean kitchen drains, as fruit flies can breed there. Pour boiling water down the drain to kill eggs and larvae.
4. Prevent infestations by storing fruit in the refrigerator or sealed containers, disposing of overripe fruit promptly, and keeping kitchen surfaces and trash clean.
5. Alternative traps use old wine or beer with dish soap as bait, or funnels made from paper to trap flies inside a jar.
