To hard boil eggs on the stove, follow these steps for perfect results:
- Place the eggs in a saucepan or pot in a single layer and cover them with cold water by about one inch.
- Put the pan on high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.
- Once boiling, remove the pan from heat and cover it. Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes, depending on how cooked the yolks are preferred (10 minutes for creamy yolks, 12 minutes for fully hard yolks).
- Drain the hot water and immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water to cool for at least a few minutes. This stops the cooking process and makes peeling easier.
This method prevents the yolk from turning green and creates bright yellow yolks with tender whites. The ice bath also helps with peeling perfection.
