To insert a picture in Excel, follow these steps:
- Select the cell or the location in the worksheet where you want to insert the picture.
- Go to the "Insert" tab on the Excel ribbon.
- In the "Illustrations" group, click "Pictures."
- Choose the source of the picture, such as "This Device" for a picture stored on your computer.
- Browse to the picture file, select it, and click "Insert." The picture will be placed near the selected cell, with its top-left corner aligned to the cell's top-left corner.
To embed or lock the image inside a cell so it moves and resizes with the cell:
- Resize the picture to fit within the desired cell.
- Right-click the picture and select "Format Picture..."
- In the Format Picture pane, go to the "Size & Properties" tab.
- Under "Properties," select the option "Move and size with cells."
This way, the picture becomes part of the cell and adjusts when the cell is moved, resized, hidden, or filtered. Alternatively, Microsoft 365 users can use the IMAGE function to insert pictures directly into cells using a URL. These methods allow for inserting one or multiple pictures, locking them to cells, or placing images in headers or footers in Excel. This procedure applies to Excel 2013 and later, including Microsoft 365, Excel 2021, and Excel 2019 versions.
