To make a lead in Minecraft, you need the following materials:
- 4 strings
- 1 slimeball
Steps to Craft a Lead
- Open your crafting table to access the 3x3 crafting grid.
- Place the 4 strings and 1 slimeball in the crafting grid as follows:
- Arrange the 4 strings in a "U" shape: two strings in the top left and top right corners, and two strings in the bottom left and bottom middle slots.
- Place the slimeball in the center slot of the grid.
- This arrangement will craft 2 leads.
- Drag the leads into your inventory.
How to Use a Lead
- Equip the lead and right-click (or the equivalent use button on your platform) on a passive or neutral mob (like cows, horses, llamas, or wolves) to leash it.
- You can also right-click a fence post while holding a leashed mob to tie the mob to the fence, preventing it from wandering away.
- To release the mob, right-click it again, break the fence post, or hit the knot on the fence.
Additional Tips
- Leads cannot be used on villagers or hostile mobs.
- You can leash multiple mobs but need one lead per mob.
- Leads will break if the mob moves through a Nether portal or if the chunk unloads while the mob is tethered.
This crafting recipe and usage work in both Java and Bedrock editions of Minecraft
