To make an easy paper snowflake, use a square piece of paper and scissors. This simple method works well for kids and beginners and only takes a few minutes.
What you need
- One sheet of plain paper (printer or A4 is fine)
- Scissors
If your paper is a rectangle, fold one corner diagonally to the opposite edge to make a triangle, then cut off the extra strip to get a square.
Folding the paper
- Fold the square in half diagonally to make a triangle.
- Fold that triangle in half again to make a smaller triangle.
- Imagine the triangle divided into three skinny wedges; fold one “third” over toward the center, then fold the other side over it, so you get a cone‑shaped wedge.
- Cut off the uneven top part straight across so all layers are even.
Cutting the design
- Along the long edges of your folded wedge, snip out small triangles, curves, or little shapes.
- Do not cut all the way across from one side to the other, or the snowflake will fall into pieces.
- You can cut a small notch off the tip if you want a hole in the center.
Unfolding and finishing
Carefully unfold all the layers to reveal your snowflake. If it curls, press it between pages of a heavy book for a while to make it flat. You can tape it to windows or hang it as an easy winter or Christmas decoration.
