To mute someone on Facebook, you have two main options: temporarily snooze them for 30 days or permanently mute them by unfollowing. Both methods prevent their posts from appearing in your news feed without notifying the person.
How to Temporarily Mute (Snooze) Someone for 30 Days
- Open the Facebook app or website and find a post from the person you want to mute.
- Click the three-dot menu on the top right of their post.
- Select Snooze [Name] for 30 days.
This hides their posts for 30 days, after which their posts will reappear automatically unless you extend or end the snooze earlier
How to Permanently Mute Someone by Unfollowing
- Go to the person's Facebook profile.
- Click the Friends button.
- Choose Unfollow.
This stops their posts from showing in your feed indefinitely but keeps you friends. You can also unfollow directly from the three-dot menu on one of their posts
Additional Options
- You can mute someone's Facebook stories by long-pressing their story and selecting Mute someone's story
- To unmute, you can reverse the snooze or unfollow actions via Facebook's settings under News Feed Preferences (called "Snooze" or "Reconnect" options)
