To pray the Rosary, follow these steps:
- Begin with the Sign of the Cross : In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
- Hold the Crucifix and pray the Apostles’ Creed : This prayer professes the core beliefs of the Catholic faith.
- On the first large bead, pray the Our Father : Also known as the Lord’s Prayer.
- On the next three small beads, pray a Hail Mary on each : These are often offered for the virtues of faith, hope, and charity.
- Pray the Glory Be : A short hymn of praise to the Trinity.
- Announce the first Mystery (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, or Luminous depending on the day) and pray one Our Father on the next large bead.
- On each of the ten small beads of the decade, pray a Hail Mary while meditating on the Mystery.
- Pray the Glory Be to conclude the decade.
- Optionally, pray the Fatima Prayer : "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy."
- Repeat steps 6–9 for the remaining four decades , each with its own Mystery.
- After completing all five decades, pray the Hail Holy Queen and any concluding prayers.
- Finish by making the Sign of the Cross again.
The Mysteries are traditionally prayed on specific days:
- Joyful Mysteries: Monday and Saturday (and Sundays of Advent and Christmas)
- Sorrowful Mysteries: Tuesday and Friday (and Sundays of Lent)
- Glorious Mysteries: Wednesday and Sunday (except Advent, Christmas, and Lent)
- Luminous Mysteries: Thursday (optional alternative for Thursday and Saturday)
This structure helps meditate on key events in the life of Jesus and Mary
