To record a Microsoft Teams meeting, follow these steps:
- Start or join the meeting in the Microsoft Teams app or web client.
- In the meeting controls, click on More actions (the three dots).
- Select Record and transcribe , then click Start recording. This will begin capturing audio, video, and screen sharing activity. Everyone in the meeting will be notified that recording has started
- To stop recording, go back to More actions > Record and transcribe, and choose Stop recording. The recording also stops automatically when the meeting ends
- After the meeting, the recording is processed and saved automatically to OneDrive for Business (for non-channel meetings) or SharePoint (for channel meetings). The meeting organizer will receive a notification when the recording is ready, and it will appear in the meeting chat or channel conversation for easy access
Important notes:
- Only one person can record at a time.
- The recording does not capture whiteboards, annotations, shared notes, or videos embedded in PowerPoint Live presentations
- You must have the necessary permissions to record; typically, the meeting organizer or those granted recording rights by an admin can start recording
- If your organization still uses Microsoft Stream, recordings may be saved there instead, but most now use OneDrive and SharePoint
Alternatively, third-party tools like Notta or Descript can record Teams meetings with additional features such as transcription and offline access
. This is the standard and most straightforward method to record a Teams meeting using built-in features.
