To register a boat in Massachusetts, follow these steps:
- Gather Required Documents:
- Bill of Sale with seller's name, address, and signature (on company letterhead if purchased from a business).
- Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) if the boat is new.
- Proof of Massachusetts sales tax payment (can be paid online via MassTaxConnect).
- Pencil tracing of the Hull Identification Number (HIN).
- Title from the seller signed over to you (for boats 14 feet and over). If the boat is US Coast Guard documented, provide a Deletion Letter.
- Completed Massachusetts Registration and Titling Application form.
- Payment for registration fees (check, money order, or credit/debit card; no cash accepted).
- Determine Fees:
- Boats under 16 feet: $44 for 2 years.
- Boats 16 to less than 26 feet: $66 for 2 years.
- Boats 26 to less than 40 feet: $88 for 2 years.
- Boats 40 feet and greater: $110 for 2 years.
- Title fee: $27.50 (valid until sold or transferred).
- Additional fees for duplicate titles or lien holders may apply.
- Submit Your Application:
- You can register in person at one of the five Massachusetts Boat and Recreation Vehicle Registration and Titling Bureau offices.

- Display Registration:
