There are two main ways to remove a Google account depending on the goal: removing the account from a device or permanently deleting the entire Google account.
To Remove Google Account from an Android Device:
- Open the Gmail app on the device.
- Tap the profile icon at the top right.
- Select "Manage accounts on this device."
- Tap on the Google account you want to remove.
- Tap the three-dot menu or "Remove account."
- Confirm and enter device password if prompted.
This will remove the account only from the device, not delete the account itself. The synced data will be removed locally but stay in the cloud.
To Remove Google Account from an iOS Device:
- Open the Gmail app and tap "Remove from this device."
- Alternatively, go to device Settings > Passwords & Accounts and delete the account.
To Permanently Delete Your Google Account:
- Go to your Google Account settings online.
- Navigate to Data & privacy.
- Select "Delete your Google Account."
- Follow the prompts to confirm deletion.
Be sure to download any data you want to keep, and understand this deletes all Google services and data tied to that account.
To Remove a Single Google Account from Chrome Browser:
- Open Chrome.
- Click the profile icon.
- Select "Manage accounts on this device."
- Remove the specific account without deleting it.
If the goal is simply to disassociate a Google account from a device or browser, removing it via device or app settings is best. If deleting the Google account entirely, use the online Google Account deletion process with caution.
