To remove Threads from Instagram, you have two main options: hiding the Threads badge on your Instagram profile or deleting/deactivating your Threads account.
How to Hide the Threads Badge on Instagram
If you want to keep using Threads but remove the Threads badge (the Threads icon and number) from your Instagram profile:
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap the Threads badge (a circle with a number) below your bio.
- Select "Hide Badge" or "Remove Badge" from the menu that appears.
- Confirm the removal. Note that once removed, the badge cannot be added back
This hides the Threads indicator on your Instagram profile but does not delete your Threads account or conversations.
How to Delete or Deactivate Your Threads Profile
If you want to remove Threads more permanently:
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu (three lines) in the top right corner.
- Go to Settings > Account > Deactivate or Delete Profile.
- Choose "Deactivate Profile" to temporarily hide your Threads profile, or "Delete Profile" to permanently delete it.
- Deleting your Threads profile removes your Threads posts and replies and after 30 days the deletion is permanent. You can reactivate within 30 days by logging back in
Importantly, deleting or deactivating your Threads profile no longer affects your Instagram account—you can keep Instagram while removing Threads
Additional Notes
- You cannot unlink Threads from Instagram without deleting your Threads profile.
- If you want to use Threads with a different Instagram account, create a new Instagram account and log into Threads with that instead
