To take a screenshot on a Chromebook, you have several options depending on whether you want to capture the entire screen, a partial area, or a specific window:
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Full screen screenshot : Press Ctrl + Window Switcher key (the key that looks like a rectangle with two vertical lines, usually in the top row). This captures the entire screen and saves the image as a .png file in your Downloads folder
- Partial screenshot : Press Ctrl + Shift + Window Switcher key. This lets you select a portion of the screen by clicking and dragging a rectangle. The selected area is saved as a .png file in Downloads
- Screenshot of a window : Press Ctrl + Alt + Window Switcher key , then click the window you want to capture
If you are using an external keyboard without a Window Switcher key, use Ctrl + Shift + F5 for full or partial screenshots instead
Using the Screen Capture Tool
- Click the time in the bottom-right corner to open Quick Settings.
- Select Screen Capture.
- Choose between capturing the full screen, a window, or a partial area.
- Click Capture to take the screenshot. The image will be saved in Downloads
Additional Tips
- Screenshots are automatically copied to the clipboard, so you can paste them directly into documents or emails with Ctrl + V
- You can find all screenshots in the Downloads folder via the Files app
- You can also adjust the size of the partial screenshot selection using the keyboard arrow keys before capturing
This makes it quick and easy to capture exactly what you need on your Chromebook screen.
