To take a screenshot on an iPad, the method depends on whether your iPad has a Home button or not:
- iPad without Home button (Face ID models): Quickly press and release the top button (power button) and either volume button at the same time. A thumbnail of the screenshot will appear temporarily in the lower-left corner of the screen. You can tap it to edit or swipe left to dismiss it. The screenshot is saved automatically in the Photos app under Screenshots
- iPad with Home button: Quickly press and release the top button and the Home button simultaneously. The screenshot thumbnail appears similarly and is saved to Photos
Additional options include:
- Full-page screenshot: After taking a screenshot, tap the thumbnail, then select "Full Page" to capture an entire webpage or document. You can save it as a PDF to Files or as an image to Photos
- AssistiveTouch method: Enable AssistiveTouch via Settings > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch. Then tap the AssistiveTouch button > Device > Screenshot to capture the screen without using physical buttons
- Corner-swipe gesture (iPadOS 16/17): You can enable a screenshot gesture by going to Settings > Multitasking & Gestures (iPadOS 17) or Settings > General > Gestures (earlier versions), then turn on "Swipe Finger from Corner" and assign Screenshot to a corner swipe. Swipe diagonally from the lower-left or lower-right corner to take a screenshot
- Apple Pencil: If you have an Apple Pencil, you can set up corner swipes in Settings > Apple Pencil to trigger screenshots
In summary, the quickest way is to press the top button and either volume button (or Home button if your iPad has one) simultaneously to capture a screenshot, which is then saved automatically to your Photos app
