To keep inflatable decorations from blowing away or falling over, secure them at multiple points, choose good anchors for your surface, and avoid placing them where wind can easily catch them.
Pick the right spot
- Place inflatables on flat, level ground so they do not lean or rock as they move in the wind.
- Avoid wind tunnels such as between houses or at the top of a slope; tuck them closer to a wall, fence, or hedge for some wind break.
Use stakes and tethers
- Use the included tether lines and drive ground or tent stakes fully into the soil at a slight angle away from the inflatable, then tighten the lines so the inflatable is firm but not distorted.
- Anchor all available D-rings or tie-down points, not just one or two, to spread wind force and keep tall decorations from twisting or tipping.
Add weights for hard surfaces
- On concrete, decks, or frozen ground, attach sandbags, gravel bags, or water weights to the tether points or base instead of (or in addition to) stakes.
- Double up weights for large or tall inflatables, and cover bags with decorative items or fake snow if you want them hidden.
Tie to fixed structures
- For extra security in windy areas, tie the inflatable to solid objects like fence posts, porch railings, or sturdy trees with rope or heavy twine, keeping lines snug but not cutting into the fabric.
- Make sure ropes do not rub against sharp edges or branches, which can cut the line or damage the inflatable in strong gusts.
Safety, weather, and theft
- Check for full inflation, air leaks, and loose lines regularly, especially after storms, and unplug during severe weather to prevent damage.
- Route cords and tethers to minimize tripping, and in higher-risk areas, use locks or cables plus good lighting or cameras to discourage theft of large inflatables.
