To take a screenshot on an iPad, the method depends on whether your iPad has a Home button or not:
- On an iPad with Face ID (no Home button): Quickly press and release the top button and either volume button at the same time.
- On an iPad with a Home button: Quickly press and release the top button and the Home button simultaneously.
After taking the screenshot, a thumbnail will appear temporarily in the lower- left corner of the screen. You can tap it to view and edit the screenshot or swipe left to dismiss it. Screenshots are automatically saved to the Photos app under the Screenshots album
. Additional methods include:
- Using Apple Pencil: Swipe from the bottom corner of the screen to instantly capture and edit a screenshot (available on iPads that support Apple Pencil)
- Using AssistiveTouch: Enable AssistiveTouch in Settings > Accessibility, then tap the AssistiveTouch button, go to Device > Screenshot to capture the screen without using physical buttons
- Using Keyboard Shortcuts: If you have an external keyboard connected, press Command + Shift + 3 to take a full screenshot or Command + Shift + 4 to take a screenshot and open the markup editor immediately
You can also take full-page screenshots of content that extends beyond the screen (like webpages) by taking a normal screenshot, tapping the thumbnail, then selecting "Full Page" and saving as PDF or image
. In summary, the most common way is:
- Press Top + Volume Up (Face ID iPads)
- Press Top + Home button (with Home button iPads)
Screenshots will be saved to Photos automatically
