To take a screenshot on a PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11, you have several methods:
Using the Print Screen Key
- Press Windows key + Print Screen (PrtScn) simultaneously. The screen will dim briefly, and the screenshot will be saved automatically to the folder:
This PC > Pictures > Screenshots
- Pressing just PrtScn copies the entire screen to the clipboard. You can then paste (Ctrl + V) the image into an app like Paint or Word to save it manually
- On some laptops, you may need to press Fn + PrtScn if the Print Screen key has multiple functions
Using the Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch
- Press Windows key + Shift + S to open the snipping toolbar.
- Choose from rectangle, freeform, window, or full-screen snip modes.
- Select the area you want to capture; the screenshot is copied to the clipboard.
- Click the notification or open the Snipping Tool to edit and save the screenshot
Using Xbox Game Bar
- Press Windows key + G to open the Xbox Game Bar.
- Click the camera icon or press Windows key + Alt + PrtScn to take a screenshot.
- Screenshots are saved in:
This PC > Videos > Captures
These methods cover quick full-screen captures, partial screen captures, and capturing specific windows or shapes on your screen. The Snipping Tool offers more flexibility for selecting and editing screenshots before saving
