To tame a cat in Minecraft, follow these steps:
- Find a Cat
Cats can be found wandering around villages or near witch huts in swamp biomes. They are passive mobs that tend to spawn in these locations
- Gather Raw Fish
You need raw cod or raw salmon to tame a cat. These fish can be caught using a fishing rod in rivers, lakes, or oceans
- Approach the Cat Slowly
Cats are easily scared and will run away if you move too quickly. To avoid this, crouch (sneak) and slowly approach the cat with the raw fish in your hand. Don’t run at it or make sudden movements
- Feed the Cat
When close enough, right-click (or tap) the cat with the raw fish to feed it. You may need to feed it several pieces of fish before it becomes tame. Hearts will appear above the cat when it is successfully tamed, and a collar will appear around its neck
- Enjoy Your Tamed Cat
Once tamed, the cat will follow you around and can be commanded to sit or stand. Tamed cats scare away creepers and phantoms, making them useful companions
Additional Tips:
- Be patient; taming can take multiple fish.
- Tame cats in a quiet area to avoid distractions.
- You can breed two tamed cats by feeding them raw fish, producing a kitten that is already tamed
This process works across all Minecraft editions including Java, Bedrock, and Pocket Edition
