To turn off the active status on Instagram in 2023 (and also in 2024-2025), follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
- Tap the three lines (menu) in the top right corner.
- Select "Settings and privacy."
- Tap "Messages and story replies" under the "How others can interact with you" section.
- Select "Show activity status."
- Toggle off the switch next to "Show Activity Status."
Once off, others won't be able to see when you are active on Instagram, and you won't see others' active status either. This change happens instantly.
If using the web browser version:
- Go to Instagram on your browser.
- Click your profile icon and then the "More" or settings icon.
- Select Settings > Messages and story replies.
- Uncheck "Show activity status" to disable it.
This setting is universal, meaning you can't selectively hide your active status from certain people, only turn it off for all followers.
