To turn off comments on a Facebook post, follow these steps depending on whether it’s a personal post or a business page post:
For Personal Facebook Posts
On Mobile or Desktop:
- Log in to Facebook and go to your profile.
- Find the post you want to disable comments on.
- Click the three dots (- - - ) in the top-right corner of the post.
- Select Who can comment on your post?
- Choose Profiles and Pages you mention. If you haven’t mentioned anyone, this effectively disables comments on that post.
Note: This feature only works if your post’s privacy is set to Public. If it’s set to Friends or Private, you cannot turn off comments this way
For Facebook Business Pages
To Turn Off Comments on Individual Posts:
- Go to your Facebook Page as an admin or editor.
- Find the post you want to manage.
- Click the three dots (- - - ) in the top-right corner.
- Choose Who can comment on your post?
- Select Profiles and Pages You Mention to restrict commenting to only those tagged, effectively turning off comments if no one is tagged.
- Click Done to save changes
Additional Moderation Options:
- Use Facebook’s moderation settings to hide comments containing profanity or specific keywords.
- Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Followers and Public Content on your Page.
- Enable Hide posts and comments with profanity and add keywords to block unwanted comments automatically
Important Details
- Turning off comments does not delete existing comments; they remain visible until manually removed.
- There is no global “turn off comments” button for all posts; you must adjust settings per post.
- For Group posts, there is a direct Turn off commenting option in the post menu
This method lets you control who can comment or effectively disable comments on your Facebook posts without deleting the post itself
