To turn on automatic app updates on your iPhone, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap on App Store.
- Under the Automatic Downloads section, toggle on the switch next to App Updates. This enables automatic updates for your apps
- (Optional) If you want apps to update automatically even when you are using cellular data (not just Wi-Fi), scroll down to the Cellular Data section and toggle on Automatic Downloads there as well. Be aware that large app updates over cellular may prompt a confirmation
Once enabled, your iPhone will automatically download and install app updates as they become available, so you don't need to update apps manually
. If you want to check or manually update apps, you can always open the App Store, tap your profile picture at the top right, and then tap Update All or update individual apps
. This setting works on recent iOS versions including iOS 16, 17, and 18
