In a reflex action, impulses from a receptor cell first travel along a sensory neurone (sensory neuron). The sensory neurone carries the electrical impulses from the receptor towards the central nervous system (CNS), usually the spinal cord, where it then connects with relay neurones (interneurons) and subsequently motor neurones to produce a rapid response. This pathway is part of the reflex arc, which enables a quick, involuntary reaction to a stimulus without involving conscious brain processing initially.
