Kezia's efforts to please her father resulted in displeasing him very much because she made a pin-cushion as a birthday gift and stuffed it with torn pieces of paper that she found in her mother's room. Unbeknownst to her, those papers were her father's important speech documents for the Port Authority. When her father discovered that the papers were ruined, he became very angry and scolded her severely, even punishing her by hitting her palm with a ruler. Thus, despite her good intentions, her innocent mistake of using valuable documents to stuff the pin-cushion displeased her father greatly.
