National Sports Day is celebrated on August 29 every year. This day marks the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, a legendary field hockey player of India. The day is dedicated to promoting the importance of sports and physical fitness and honors the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand, who won three Olympic gold medals for India in 1928, 1932, and 1936. National Sports Day was first celebrated in 2012 and is also the occasion when the National Sports Awards are presented by the President of India.
