One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the famous lighthouse was located in the city of Alexandria, Egypt. It was known as the Lighthouse of Alexandria or the Pharos of Alexandria and was constructed on the island of Pharos in the harbor of Alexandria. The lighthouse guided sailors safely to the port and was an architectural marvel of its time, standing over 100 meters (approximately 350 feet) tall. It was built during the reign of Ptolemy II around 280 BC and served as a navigational aid for many centuries before being destroyed by earthquakes in the medieval period.
