Humans have traveled as deep as approximately 10,928 meters (about 35,853 feet or nearly 7 miles) below the ocean's surface, reaching the bottom of the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench. This record dive was achieved by Victor Vescovo in 2019 using the submersible DSV Limiting Factor. Prior to that, the first manned descent to this depth was in 1960 by Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh aboard the Bathyscaphe Trieste. Other notable dives include James Cameron's solo dive in 2012. Humans breathing underwater without submersibles have reached much shallower depths, with the deep saturation diving record around 1,752 feet.
