Regina Santos-Aviles was a 35-year-old congressional staffer and regional district director for U.S. Representative Tony Gonzales of Texas. She tragically died after catching fire at her home in Uvalde, Texas, in an incident described by her family and authorities as an accident. Her mother found her fully conscious but engulfed in flames, and Santos-Aviles's last words were reportedly, "I don't want to die." She was airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio but was later pronounced dead. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but local police and the Texas Rangers have found no indications of foul play. Santos-Aviles was known for her dedication to her community and her passionate work supporting her district. She left behind an 8-year-old son.
