The Anglican Church is also called the Church of England. In some countries, particularly the United States, it is also known as the Episcopal Church. The term "Anglican" refers to the tradition stemming from the Church of England and reflects its English origins. The Episcopal Church is a preferred name in the U.S. because of historical and cultural reasons, but it represents the same tradition as Anglicanism. The Anglican Church is considered a middle way (via media) between Protestantism and Catholicism.
