The founder of the Brahmo Samaj was Raja Ram Mohan Roy. He established the Brahmo Sabha in 1828 in Calcutta, which later became known as the Brahmo Samaj. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is widely recognized as the father of the Indian Renaissance and initiated the movement to reform Hindu society by advocating monotheism and opposing social evils such as idol worship, caste discrimination, and the practice of sati.
