Tropicana Field is a domed multipurpose stadium located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Originally opened on March 3, 1990, it was built at a cost of $138 million and was initially named the Florida Suncoast Dome. It was later renamed Tropicana Field in 1996 after Tropicana Juice purchased the naming rights. The stadium is primarily known as the home of the Tampa Bay Rays Major League Baseball team. Besides baseball, Tropicana Field has hosted a wide variety of other sports and competitive events, including hockey, basketball, football, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, and even motorcycle and sprint car racing. The stadium is the last dome stadium in Major League Baseball and is noted for its unique features such as an indoor touch tank with live rays and an outfield wall with various nooks. Tropicana Field has undergone renovations to accommodate professional baseball tenants since it was originally built without one. It has a seating capacity of about 25,000 to 45,000 depending on the configuration, and it offers protection from Florida's humid and rainy weather. Recently, Tropicana Field has been undergoing roof repairs due to damage from Hurricane Milton, with new panels being installed to strengthen the structure to withstand high winds. The repairs, costing around $55 to $60 million, are expected to be completed by early 2026.
