The Silverbibeln, or Codex Argenteus, is a 6th–5th century Gothic-language manuscript containing the four Gospels. Today it is best known as one of the world’s most famous medieval handwritings and a centerpiece of the Uppsala University Library in Sweden, where most surviving leaves are kept. Its journey across Europe—likely created in Italy, later housed in Werden, moved to Prague, and eventually reaching Uppsala—reflects a dramatic medieval odyssey that underscores its status as a premier relic of Gothic literature and early Christian text transmission.
