What3words is a proprietary geocode system designed to identify any location on the surface of Earth with a resolution of about 3 meters. Every 3-meter square of the world has been given a unique combination of three words, which can be used for e-commerce and delivery, navigation, emergencies, and more. The system divides the world into a grid of 57 trillion 3-by-3-meter squares, each of which has a three-word address. The company says they do their best to remove homophones and spelling variations; however, at least 32 pairs of English near-homophones still remain.

It can be used to help emergency services know exactly where to find someone, especially in hard-to-describe locations or places with inaccurate addresses. It can also be used to plan exact meet-up locations, simplify navigation, and give car breakdown services a precise location. The app is available in over 50 languages and can navigate offline with compass mode.
