Cryptids are creatures whose existence has yet to be (or cannot entirely be) proven. They are studied in the field of cryptozoology, which is a pseudoscience that primarily looks at anecdotal stories and other claims rejected by the scientific community. Some examples of cryptids include Bigfoot, Nessie the Loch Ness Monster, the Jersey Devil, El Chupacabra, Mothman, and werewolves. However, some real species we know about today were once considered cryptids, such as the giant squid. Cryptids are often creatures that live in habitats that are difficult for humans to find, such as the deep ocean or dense forests. Despite the best efforts of monster hunting TV shows and amateur sleuths, there may never be concrete proof that these creatures exist. Nevertheless, people continue to analyze strange photographs or odd carcasses and say maybe, just maybe, cryptids do exist.
