A döner kebab, also spelled doner kebab, is a type of kebab that originated in Turkey and is now popular in many parts of the world, particularly in Germany and the UK. It is made of meat that is cooked on a vertical rotisserie and then sliced into thin shavings. The meat can be lamb, chicken, beef, pork, or a mixture of these meats. The sliced meat is typically served in a pita bread or as a dish of "doner meat" with salad and a range of sauces such as tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, chili sauce, mint, or garlic sauce. The dish is often garnished with thinly sliced onion and tomato sprinkled with sumac. Nowadays, chicken doner, or tavuk döner, is just as popular in Turkey as lamb doner.
