"What a Whopper" is a British comedy film directed by Gilbert Gunn and released in 1961. The film follows a writer who attempts to raise some cash by writing a book about the Loch Ness Monster. No publisher will take it because they all think there isnt really a monster. The writer and his friends then decide to fake a sighting of the monster to drum up sales. The film stars Adam Faith, Sidney James, Carole Lesley, and Terence Longdon. The film is described as innocent seaside postcard humor, full of comic misunderstandings. Charles Hawtrey plays a beatnik artist, Spike Milligan is a befuddled fisherman, and Sid James a Scottish publican. The film is a souvenir from a bygone age, when outrageous sexism was tolerated, and the treatment of women in this film makes the "Carry On" series positively PC by comparison.
