A Baby Guinness is a shooter, a style of cocktail, or mixed alcoholic beverage, intended to be consumed in one shot. It is made with two ingredients: coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur. The coffee liqueur is the base of the shot that gives it the deep rich brown color of Guinness, while the Irish cream liqueur floats on top creating the “foamy head” of the beer. To make a Baby Guinness, fill a shot glass 2/3 full with coffee liqueur, then pour the Irish cream over the back of a spoon, down the inside of the glass. It should layer on top of the coffee liqueur. Some recipes call for the Irish cream to be whipped then spooned on top of the coffee liqueur in order to look more like the head on a pint of Guinness. The drink is named after the famous Irish beer because it is made in such a way as to look like a tiny glass of stout.
