Renew in Person:
- Your completed Driver’s License application. You can also save time by doing it online.
- An appointment schedule with CA DMV. You can also do it online. Make sure to select the option specifying renew driver’s license.
- Proof of your identity. This can be California State ID or your Social Security Number.
- Proof of legal presence. Your US passport is one of the easiest examples of this.
- Proof of residence. You will need at least two documents proving you reside in the State of California. These can be mortgage or rental documents, utility bills, or any other document that shows your address is in California.
- Payment for the renewal fee.
- Pass a vision test.
- Take a written test, if necessary.
Renew by Mail:
- Renewal by Mail (RBM) Notice along with a Renewal Identification Number (RIN) .
- Verified Social Security number on record with the DMV.
- Valid credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) .
Renew Online:
- Access to the Internet.
- Verified Social Security number on record with the DMV.
- Valid credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover) .
Renew by Phone:
- Credit card or debit card information.
It is important to note that if you are 70 years of age or older, you will need to renew your license in person. Additionally, if you need to upgrade to a REAL ID, you will need to renew your license in person.
