Snorlax is a Pokémon species, a type of Pocket Monster, in Nintendo and Game Freaks Pokémon franchise. It is a large, blueish creature with closed slit eyes and a closed mouth that features two upwardly protruding teeth. While Snorlaxs appearance is not based on a specific animal, it is loosely based on hibernating bears or teddy bears, and may also be based on the cave bear. Additionally, Snorlax shares traits with sloths, who are often portrayed as lazy and sleepy creatures. The name Snorlax is a portmanteau of the words "snore" and "relax," referencing its constant sleeping spells. According to Pokémon art director Ken Sugimori, Snorlax is inspired by veteran Pokémon game designer Kōji Nishino, who was the model for the Snorlax Pokémon.
