Timon, one of the beloved characters from Disneys "The Lion King," is an animated meerkat. Meerkats are small mammals that belong to the mongoose family and are native to southern Africa, particularly the Kalahari Desert. In the movie, Timon is the wise-cracking sidekick of Pumbaa, a warthog.
