There have been 27 amendments to the United States Constitution. The first ten amendments are known as the Bill of Rights and were ratified on December 15, 1791. The remaining 17 amendments were ratified at various times throughout history. The amendments are as follows:

  1. Freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition
  2. Right to bear arms
  3. Protection against quartering of soldiers
  4. Protection against unreasonable searches and seizures
  5. Right to due process of law, protection against self-incrimination, and protection against double jeopardy
  6. Right to a fair and speedy trial, right to an impartial jury, right to be informed of charges, right to confront witnesses, and right to have legal counsel
  7. Right to a trial by jury in civil cases
  8. Protection against excessive bail and fines, and against cruel and unusual punishment
  9. Protection of rights not specifically enumerated in the Constitution
  10. Powers not delegated to the federal government are reserved for the states or the people
  11. Limits the ability of citizens to sue states in federal court
  12. Changes the procedure for electing the President and Vice President
  13. Abolishes slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime
  14. Defines citizenship, guarantees equal protection under the law, and prohibits states from denying citizens due process of law
  15. Prohibits the denial of voting rights based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude
  16. Gives Congress the power to levy an income tax
  17. Establishes the direct election of Senators by the people of each state
  18. Prohibits the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol
  19. Gives women the right to vote
  20. Changes the dates of congressional and presidential terms
  21. Repeals the 18th Amendment
  22. Limits the President to two terms in office
  23. Grants residents of Washington, D.C. the right to vote in presidential elections
  24. Prohibits the use of poll taxes in federal elections
  25. Establishes the procedures for presidential succession and disability
  26. Lowers the voting age to 18
  27. Limits congressional pay raises until the beginning of the next term
