In the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, Angels are a group of fictional entities that threaten to destroy humanity. They are giant malevolent monsters of extremely varied shapes and powers, originating from a being known as Adam). There are 17 original Angels that appear in the series. Each Angel has unique powers and abilities that can be pretty hard to understand at times. Here are some examples of the Angels and their characteristics:

• Adam: The first Angel created angels 3-16.
• Lilith: The second Angel.
• Sachiel: The third Angel.
• Shamshel: The fourth Angel. Has a cylindrical, squid-like body with two whip-like arms. Defeated by Unit 01s progressive knife.
• Ramiel: The fifth Angel. Has a strong AT Field, and shoots strong lasers. Attempted to infiltrate NERV with a drill. Defeated by Unit 01 & 00 with a positron cannon in the Yashima Operation.
• Gaghiel: The sixth Angel. A fish-like Angel which attacked Unit 02 being transported on UN Pacific. Asuka & 02s first opponent, with the fight taking place underwater. Defeated by 2 battleships firing into its mouth, kept open by Unit 02.
• Israfel: The seventh Angel. Giant Angel with 2 cores, can split its body into two identical copies. Defeated by Unit 01 and Unit 02 working together.
• Arael: The fifteenth Angel. Has a largely incorporeal body made of light, and it attacked by using its AT field to make telepathic contact with the EVA pilots and forcing them to relive traumatic memories.

The Angels are not aliens or gods, but rather they are artificially created beings that threaten humanity.
