Bait dogs are dogs that are used as live bait to stimulate the fighting instincts of other dogs and to train them to fight. They are deliberately chosen for their vulnerability and passive nature, making them easy targets for the aggressive training sessions they are subjected to. Bait dogs are used in dogfighting to train other dogs and gauge fighting ability. Dogfighters use bait dogs to let their game dogs practice mutilating another dog, without being harmed in the process. To ensure their dogs arent damaged, they will either use duct tape to tape the bait dogs mouth shut, or break out their teeth so the bait dog cant fight back. They also either put them in a pit or tie them to a tree or pole so that they cant get away from the game dogs. Bait dogs can be any dog, and they are often stolen from peoples yards or fences. Bait dogs suffer extreme physical and psychological abuse, including severe injuries and trauma. Rehabilitation programs and supporting shelters are crucial in rescuing and rehabilitating bait dogs.
