Butt injections are a cosmetic procedure to enhance the contour of the buttocks using a dermal filler thats injected into the skin of the buttocks. The primary purpose of the injections is to make the buttocks larger and more shapely. Currently, the only FDA-approved butt injection method is fat transfer, also known as the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) . During a BBL, fat is removed from one area of the body, purified, and then injected into the buttocks to add volume and shape. Other types of butt injections include Sculptra and Radiesse, which are calcium-based fillers that stimulate collagen growth to make the skin in the buttocks tighter and smoother. Butt injections are less invasive than surgery, but they are not without risks. If not done by a qualified and experienced professional, they can be dangerous. Large blood vessels are located deep within the buttocks, and if these blood vessels are damaged or if anything is mistakenly injected into them, those substances can quickly travel to the heart and lungs, resulting in death. Its important to note that butt injections are never completely free from risk, and patients should discuss their desired end results with their provider prior to undergoing any butt injection treatment.
