Extreme sports are activities that are perceived as involving a high degree of risk and often involve speed, height, a high level of physical exertion, and highly specialized gear. While the exact definition and what is included as an extreme sport is debatable, some characteristics are common to most extreme sports. For example, they tend to have a younger-than-average target demographic and are rarely sanctioned by schools for their physical education curriculum.

Some attempted to make a classification for extreme sports. One argument is that to qualify as an "extreme sport," both expression terms need to be fulfilled: "sport," where the participant has to dispose of considerable skill and/or physical ability to avoid poor execution of the activity, and "extreme," where the poor execution of the activity has to result in considerable risk of serious physical harm to the participant.

Examples of extreme sports include skateboarding, snowboarding, freestyle skiing, in-line roller-skating, street lugeing, BMX and mountain biking, racing and acrobatic competitions for motorcycles and snowmobiles, rock climbing, skydiving, and many more.

Here is a list of some extreme sports, listed from the "intense" to outright "INSANE":

  1. Zorbing
  2. Scuba diving
  3. Powerbocking
  4. Blobbing
  5. Mountain boarding
  6. Wakeboarding/water skiing
  7. Kiting
  8. Parasailing

Extreme sports are all about the thrill and testing the limits of what is humanly possible. They carry a certain wow factor, giving them a unique sense of appeal.
