Intermediate directions are the four compass directions located halfway between each pair of cardinal directions. They are also known as intercardinal or ordinal directions. The four intermediate directions are:

• Northeast (NE): halfway between north and east, opposite of southwest.
• Southeast (SE): halfway between south and east, opposite of northwest.
• Southwest (SW): halfway between south and west, opposite of northeast.
