Internal injuries are injuries that occur inside the body and are not visible on the surface. They can be caused by blunt or penetrating trauma, such as a car accident, a fall, or a workplace accident. Internal injuries can be serious and even life-threatening, and they are frequently determined in autopsies to have been the cause of death, even when there was no evidence of injury on the surface of the body. • Internal bleeding: This occurs when blood vessels are damaged in a crash or an internal organ is ruptured, and blood floods into the cavities of the body. Internal bleeding is one of the most serious consequences of trauma and can be fatal if left untreated.

• Organ damage: Trauma can cause damage to internal organs such as the liver, spleen, kidneys, heart, and lungs. Rupture or piercing of the organ can cause internal bleeding and other complications.

• Broken bones: Fractured or broken ribs are a common type of internal injury that can occur in moderate or serious crashes.

Symptoms of internal injuries are not always immediately apparent, and delay in treatment can lead to serious medical issues. Signs and symptoms to look for include abdominal pain or swelling, headache or loss of consciousness, light-headedness or dizziness, swelling or pain in the leg, and more.
