Munros are mountains in Scotland that are over 3,000 feet (914.4m) in height and are on the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC) official list of Munros. The term "Munro" comes from Sir Hugh Munro, who first compiled a list of the highest mountains in Scotland in 1891. As of December 2020, there are 282 Munros and 226 Munro Tops on the official SMC list. Munro bagging is a popular pastime in Scotland where walking enthusiasts challenge themselves to climb as many of the peaks as they can. Some of the most famous Munros include Ben Nevis, which is the highest peak in the British Isles, and the Black Cuillin on Skye.
