A palindrome is a word, sentence, verse, or even number that reads the same backward or forward. The word "palindrome" was introduced by English poet and writer Henry Peacham in 1638, and it is derived from the Greek roots πάλιν again and δρóμος way, direction. Palindromes can be words, numbers, phrases, or other sequences of symbols that read the same backward as forwards, such as "madam," "racecar," "level," "rotor," and "deified". Palindromes can also be sentences, such as "A man, a plan, a canal – Panama". Palindromes can be found in dates, such as December 11, 2021 (12/11/21) . They can also be found in molecular biology, where many molecular lengths between four and eight nucleotides are palindromic. Palindromes are even seen in acoustics when a recorded phrase sounds the same as it does live when the recording is played backward.
